Work on Anna Scavolini 5 continues apace. Very much apace, in fact. Since we last spoke, I completed my readthrough of the “Draft Zero” script version (more on the rather unique writing process I’ve been using for this project in my October and November newsletters)… and I’m tentatively going to call it the most solid initial draft I’ve written to date.
Yes, some of it is a little rough around the edges, with certain scenes requiring expansion or retooling, and I’ve had to go back to the drawing board and rethink a handful of plot points.
But all in all, it held up remarkably well. In stark contrast to the previous two books, I don’t foresee myself having to make any substantial changes to the overall structure.
I started writing the first proper novel draft a couple of weeks ago, and I’m pleased to report that things are moving at a brisk clip. At the time of writing, I have just over 35,000 words (of a projected total of about 120,000) in the bag. Things certainly go much more smoothly when you (a) know what you’re supposed to be writing and (b) are able to copy and paste entire chunks of dialogue!
As I mentioned last month, I’m attempting to move to a nine-month cadence for my book releases, meaning I’m targeting a June 2024 publication date for this one. Which should (strong emphasis on “should”) be entirely achievable.
Stay tuned for more information on the plot – and an actual title! – in the new year.
